warning 4 vomit (not.. in a sexy way) + standard warning-worthy stuff in this au lmao
He knows he's watching him, hunched over in his corner. And Ed does his best to ignore it, to ignore him, because if he acknowledges him, acknowledges all that brought him here, to this point, that will be it. He will lose his grasp on reality, tenuous as it already feels.
But he keeps staring, and Ed's already frayed nerves can't take it.
"What is it." He refuses to look up at Kaiser Ryo.
"You were watching through the door," he says, and it's the last thing Ed expected, or wanted, to hear. The nausea building in his throat washes over him, chokes him, but the Kaiser - the former Kaiser - isn't done:
"The next day you ask for me back. So what are you waiting for?" His voice is cool and smooth, like a knife through Ed's ribs. At least, that's how it feels. "You want to do the same things. Right?"
"No!" The world is spinning around Ed. He can see DD standing over-- DD was-- He can't breathe. "G-god... No..."
And then he can't say any more, because he needs to stand and run for the bathroom now.
He's still coughing weakly when he feels a looming shadow fall on him from the bathroom doorway. He doesn't bother to look up - his vision is too blurry to see, anyway.
Kaiser only stands there, silent and unmoving, until Ed is just sniffling on the floor, too tired to stand up and wash himself free of snot and bile. Then, he moves quietly to the sink, and Ed can hear him rummage around, and the sound of the tap turning on and off, before he returns and kneels by Ed's side. Very gently, he takes Ed by the chin and tilts his face up, and begins to dab him clean with several damp paper towels.
His face is blank, like a mask, but it seems to Ed that this is some form of apology, or perhaps an offer of a truce.
He has no energy to figure out which it is, so he just squeezes his eyes shut and accepts it.
